Re: BPAC RE: Russ Holley's EMAIL was HACKED, please don't open any attachments

Hving run the MBAC list for years, and several others with 100's of people on them, I would say that you should keep the status quo (or use our system). Mailman allows folks to receive daily digests. And, if there is a back an forth, folks can use filters, ignore the emails, or the discussers can go off list. Other than today's discussion of email security, I have never seen an issue with BPAC other than it's too quiet most of the time. best Dave At 6:31 PM -0600 7/22/13, Keegan Garrity wrote: Dave, I appreciate y ...Continue Reading

Dave,I appreciate your willingness to implement improvements. I should clarify...it's not that the current email list isn't working (with respect to functionality). From what I've seen so far, it has been very reliable and consistent. My suggestion centers around how this technology is being used. For example, discussions (such as the one we're having now) may not be of interest to all BPAC members. Or, perhaps they would be interested, but they'd rather not receive an email each time you and I correspond. I believ ...Continue Reading

BPAC RE: Russ Holley's EMAIL was HACKED, please don't open any attachments

I'm happy to host a listserv on cyclingutah.com if you like. We host many others, using the mailman software. But, I think the BPAC listserv works fine. Google groups are a pain to use (must have a google account for one). - Dave At 3:28 PM -0600 7/22/13, Keegan Garrity wrote: Bob, I think this would also be an appropriate time to re-introduce options for a group collaboration tool. Bob,I think this would also be an appropriate time to re-introduce options for a group collaboration tool. Benefits of going this route are as follows:[*]Members could reply to a specific topic and keep conversations organized by threads. [*]As an alternative to Reply All, every group member wouldn't receive a new email for every contribution to the discussion [*]Member could choose their notification preferences [*]Email lists couldn't be abused, either intentionally or unintentionally [*]Conversations are easily a ...Continue Reading

Alas, setting up the google two-step would only save you from this one avenue of hacker mischief.  This was however a fairly effective spoof because we are all inclined to believe that Russ wants to share some document with us. Even if you are not at USU, I would welcome you to peruse https://it.usu.edu/computer-security/be-an-internet-skeptic and take note of the "Phishing & Email Scams" link on the left as well as the "Internet Skeptic Blog". One of the things we recommend is the use ...Continue Reading
