Re: Fwd: Logan City Parks, Paths & Trails map

November 4th 2013 MDT

Russ, could you clarify this statement for me by answering the following questions? "As far as the Shared-Use Pathways are concerned, yes it is not ideal to have them adjacent to roadways and numerous driveway crossings, but these sections are vital because they connect the more natural sections of the Shared-Use Pathway (Golf Course, Logan River, Canal and First Dam Areas) together and short of buying infeasible amounts a private property to run Shared-Use Pathways along our natural corridor ...Continue Reading

BPAC Fwd: becoming a "road respect" community

November 4th 2013 MDT

After our last BPAC meeting Jeff Gilbert forwarded the link to Utah's Road Respect program.  I've now reviewed that program (rather quickly) and believe it to have many advantages for Logan/Cache County.  I'd like others on the BPAC to do the same and bring your input to the next mtg. on Nov. 14 at noon.   In my opinion, this doesn't preclude us from using the very valuable feedback from the Bike Friendly Community application that we received two years ago.  Both programs are good and they wi ...Continue Reading

Re: Fwd: Logan City Parks, Paths & Trails map

October 31st 2013 MDT

Bob & Paul, We are making some adjustments that include further distinguishing bike lanes and bike routes and including 200 E as a bike route. Bike lanes are painted lines and separately defined road space. Bike routes are anything from signs to sharrows to greenlane sharrrows, and in general bikes and cars share the road space along corridors that are particularly appealing to bike travel.  As far as the Shared-Use Pathways are concerned, yes it is not ideal to have them adjace ...Continue Reading

routes and lanes

One follow-up comment to the draft plan that Holly Daines sent out to the BPAC list earlier today.  Where possible, we should be consistent on streets with lanes or routes.  (One existing lane is incomplete on the map now, where 500 N. connects to 700 east, then 700 north going up to campus at around 800 east.)  I recommend that we complete the 500 north bike lane (prosposed) on the west side to connect to 600 west.  Similar consistency should be implemented along 1000 north - when possible avoid r ...Continue Reading

Re: Fwd: Logan City Parks, Paths & Trails map

October 31st 2013 MDT

Thanks Jeff for forwarding and Bob for taking a hard look at the revised plan.  I agree with Bob that we need to be very careful not to overuse the "shared use" designation except where there is clearly ample resources (8-10 ft. path, center lane, use signs, and crossing signs).  These shared use paths should be as independent of the roadway as possible, including mininum number of driveways...at driveways, I'm think 300 S. on S. side of LHS, yield to bikes/ped. signs should be posted at parking lo ...Continue Reading

RE: Logan City Parks, Paths & Trails map

October 30th 2013 MDT

Thanks for forwarding that, Jeff.  I have a concern with the "Urban Trail (sidewalk)", especially as a result of the "One further note" below. In that note it suggests that bicyclists will transition to a bike lane, indicating that before the transition that bicyclists were on the urban trail (sidewalk).  Bicycling on roadside sidewalks has significant risks compared to bicycling on the right side of the roadway, when the sidewalk/trail has intersections every block and multiple driveway ...Continue Reading
