Street Parking

March 5th 2024 MDT

Hello,   Cedar City has a proposal to allow adjacent street parking to count towards the required on-site parking minimums.  Looking to see if other jurisdictions have ordinances that entertain street parking allowances, and if so any thoughts?   I appreciate any input.   Regards, *Donald Boudreau* *City Planner* 10 N. Mike, good afternoon. Reno has a lengthy history with maker spaces – they even have an “Innovation District” in their zoning code. I would reach out to them and find out how they do it. The coolest maker space IMHO is the Generator https://www.therenogenerator.com/.  A more traditional one is the Reno Innevation Center https://www.unr.edu/innevation, which is associated with the University of Nevada and is more of a business incubator. Good luck! *Aric A Jensen, AICP* Assistant County Administrator jensen.ar ...Continue Reading

For those interested, this is what I found in the Truckee, CA code: Makerspace. A place where people with shared interests can gather to work on projects with shared ideas, equipment and knowledge. Includes community centers that provide technology, manufacturing and educational opportunities to the public; does not include the uses under the “Schools” definition. May include technology, arts and manufacturing uses (metal fabrication and welding, paper products, furniture and fixtures, stone and clay products, textil ...Continue Reading

I am not aware of a local definition, but I came across a definition of an artisan or maker space. It refers to a place where artisans, craftsmen, and small-scale manufacturers can work together in a communal or individual setting. The activities carried out in these spaces are such that they produce minimal noise, fumes, or any other disturbance that is typically associated with industrial or manufacturing uses. This has become an issue due to the maker movement, and some people are calling these spaces "cowork ...Continue Reading

Paul, I have a copy of a form-based code from somewhere in California, that I believe involves Maker Space as a use. It may contain a definition. If I have time to locate it in my personal files, I will try to send it along. Maker space recently came along in a conversation with an associate, and I am wondering if you could pass along any responses that you receive, as I realized that this information may be helpful to me, as well. Warm Regards, * * *Brandon Bell, CNU-A* Planning and Zoning Administrator P ...Continue Reading

Maker Space definition

March 1st 2024 MDT

We are considering a planned district ordinance that would include maker space as a use.  Does anyone have a good definition of maker space?  We are trying to differentiate between industrial uses that would be more appropriate to an industrial zone and small scale maker space that can be incorporated into a mixed use district that includes residential, commercial, and other less intensive uses.  Thanks.   *Paul Larsen AICP MSARP* *Community & Economic Development Director* 20 N.
