RE: Code Enforcement Protocols

Maybe this is overly pessimistic, but my experience has been that it has not really mattered what the code enforcement language has been in the jurisdictions I have worked in; what has truly mattered is the political will to enforce Constitutional code language.

The best suggestion I have regarding the implementation of code and its enforcement is to abundantly elicit communication between the jurisdiction's residents and their elected and appointed representatives and staff.  The jurisdiction needs to determine the community's (Constitutionally) balanced rights between a property and its neighbors and whether the jurisdiction has the political will to enforce the proposed code -- the code is only as good as a jurisdiction's will to Constitutionally enforce it.

I think this would be a good topic for a conference or possibly a panel discussion.  What has and has not worked over the years.

Please share any documentation or code language you may have that governs the code enforcement process in your jurisdiction.
