Somers-Jaramillo + Associates (SJ+A), is a local strategic communication and public engagement firm. The majority of our work is providing communication and public engagement support on large transportation projects. Our team works as the liaison between construction contractors, consultants, local government agencies, and the public on these projects. We create and distribute project information to interested stakeholders and the public, manage media and digital communications, research and follow up on project complaints, and ensure that project communication is accurate, reliable, and consistent.

We are working with the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) on a study to identify better transit and active transportation connections between downtown and Weber State University. We are looking for 1-3 part-time interns to assist our team with public engagement and digital communications.

 

            This internship provides the opportunity to gain the following experience:

      Community and demographic research, data gathering and processing

      Creating graphics and copy for project communications including email, fliers, infographics, press releases, newsletters and announcements

      Assisting with outreach in general, and specifically learning how to organize, run, and facilitate public meetings, including charrettes and place-based engagement

      Developing paid and unpaid content and editorial calendars for social media

      Creating an educational video about the project for the community and stakeholders

 

Skills Needed:

      Computer skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint

      Self-starter with an outgoing, friendly personality

      Comfortable speaking to people one-on-one and in small groups

      Good listening, speaking and writing skills

      Able to take direction from senior staff and work independently or under direct supervision

      Must have own vehicle and insurance (we will reimburse mileage)

 

Additional Skills Preferred: (any of the below)

   Bi-lingual or Spanish language speaker

   Competent with WordPress and Adobe Design Suite

 

This position is eligible for academic credits and may be paid. Pay ranges from $10-$15/hour based on experience, 10+ hours/week depending on workload beginning in February and concluding in September 2018.
