APA UT SPRING CONFERENCE 2014

New Perspectives. Better Results.

If we keep doing things the same way we are sure to get the same results. The 2014 Utah APA Spring Conference will challenge long-held planning assumptions and analyze important planning issues from new perspectives. This will help planners make better decisions that improve quality of life in our communities.

An entire track at the conference is devoted to transportation issues. How do traditional planning assumptions influence current transportation policy? And how can new perspectives on transportation result in healthier and more livable cities? Transportation experts from around the country will answer these questions: Carlos Braceras (Executive Director, UDOT), Dr. Peter Norton (Transportation Historian, University of Virginia), Andy Boenau (Transportation Expert, Timmons Group Consultants), and Dr. Jennifer Dill (Transportation and Land Use Planner, Portland State University).

Another conference track will examine the planner's influence in promoting quality of life and livability in small and rural communities. How can planners build effective partnerships with federal land managers? How can design standards work for small and rural communities? What do planners need to know about water resources? How can rural communities benefit from broadband connectivity?

A third track will offer planning commissioners and new planners valuable foundation knowledge about Utah planning law, planning fundamentals, and decision making processes.

The conference will be held at the Canyon Community Center in Springdale, right outside Zion National Park. We suggest you make lodging reservations promptly. With mild springtime weather and prime hiking conditions hotels in Zion Canyon fill up quickly. Visit www.zionpark.com for lodging options.
