School Definition Question

I am looking for a definition of school from a Land Use standpoint. Schools tend to be permitted uses in most zones, but what is a school? We do not have a definition of School and I am having trouble finding a definition of school in other land use codes. I have researched State Code, but those regs deal mostly with school boards, accreditation, etc. We have a non-profit use that wants to be classified as a school for zoning purposes, but we don't have a definition of school.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
