The recent 2020 Census revealed Vineyard as Utah's fastest growing city, from a 2010 population of 139 to a 2020 population of 12,543. Current population estimates exceed 15,000. Vineyard also encompasses one of Utah's largest redevelopment projects, a brownfield remediation and reclamation located on the site of the former Geneva Steel plant.
Join us for a field trip hosted by Urban Design Utah, next Monday, October 3, from 3:30 until about 5:00 PM. The tour will include an approximately 6 mile tour on electric scooters (provided by Lime Utah, or bring your own bike if you prefer), beginning at the Utah Transit Authority
FrontRunner Commuter Rail Station (approx. 750 N Main Street in Vineyard) recently completed and opened to service in August.
Please RSVP to make sure we have enough e-scooters. We don't want anyone left behind!
The tour will include an overview of the planned City Center and Utah Valley University satellite campus developing around the new rail station, followed by a tour through new parks and neighborhoods, a stop at the Vineyard civic center and City Hall for presentations and refreshment break, then by a ride along the Utah Lake Shoreline Trail and ongoing lake shore development and restoration, before returning to the station. See the attached tour map.
Presentations and discussion will include an overview of prominent urban designer
Jeff Speck's visionary
master plan for Vineyard, detailing a walkable urban district and neighborhoods, which has inspired and guided current development efforts. Additional presentations by city staff and representatives from local developers, planners and designers will highlight ongoing implementation.
Thank you to our presenters and sponsors, AIA Utah, APA Utah and Lime Utah E-Scooter & E-Bike Share.
