EMPLOYMENT ANNOUNCEMENT

Wasatch County Planning Office seeks a full-time Senior Planner.  Grade 30 $78,280-$82,194-Plus Benefits Package.  Wasatch County is situated in a rural mountain valley on the back of the Wasatch Mountain range approximately 15 miles southeast of Park City and less than an hour drive to Salt Lake City and the Provo Orem area.  The County seat is in Heber City and the County has a population of a little over 36,000.  The County is surrounded by State and Federal lands and a number of reservoirs.  The area provides unlimited recreational opportunities including skiing, mountain biking, fishing and water sports.  Due to the county’s proximity to the Wasatch front, recreational opportunities and its beauty, the area is experiencing rapid growth in all types of development including; residential, mixed use and resort.

This position performs a variety of professional and technical duties related to implementing department work plans and will be involved in carrying out or overseeing many of the daily operations of the department.  Reviews development proposals for compliance with county codes. Conducts research on issues, policies, and concepts pertaining to planning, zoning, and community development.  Presents findings to planning commission and council.  Prepares proposals in draft form for amendments to codes and ordinances.  Supervises other department planners.  Works with developers and other departments to resolve issues prior to public meetings.  Requires a Bachelor Degree in Planning, Geography, Landscape Architecture or related field and five to seven (5-7) years’ of progressively responsible work experience performing civic planning activities.  Two (2) years of experience may be substituted for a Master’s Degree in an applicable field.

The position may under-fill as a Planner II requiring  an equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Planning, Geography, Landscape Architecture, or a similar planning related field and four (4) years progressively responsible work experience, which partly may include an internship,  performing civic planning activities or related duties.
