Retaining Wall Ordinances & Height Limits

All,

North Ogden City is considering making adjustments to our retaining wall ordinance, specifically regarding overall permitted height limits for retaining walls.

Currently, in North Ogden City, retaining walls should not be any taller than 8 feet, per city ordinance. There are provisions for stepped wall systems, with required distances between each wall in the system.

We are trying to survey other retaining wall height limits in municipal ordinances, particularly in cities, or areas within counties, with significant areas that have steep slopes and hillside development.

If anyone with similar retaining wall ordinances, particularly with height limits, would be willing to provide a link to their ordinance, I’d greatly appreciate it. I would also be interested in any ordinance that has been adjusted in the last few years believes that ordinance is working well. If you also would be willing to provide a brief summary of what you believe works well about the ordinance, and any height limts involved, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Warm regards,
