Housing and Referenda Seminars - CM APPROVED

Plans are now complete for two three-hour seminars updating local officials on recent changes in the law - co-sponsored by the Utah APA, the League of Cities and Towns, the Land Use Academy of Utah, and the Utah Land Use Institute.  

May 14, 2019 at the RL Hotel (Red Lion) 161 West 600 South, Salt Lake City

Moderate Income Housing - 9 a.m. - Join those who crafted the legislation and those who will review and implement housing plans to discuss new requirements and opportunities for housing - 

  • Annual Moderate Income Housing Updates required of 84 Utah cities
  • A Buffet of Housing Strategies - at least three must be implemented
  • Other practical ways to promote housing affordability.

Referenda and Initiatives - 1:30 p.m. The Supreme Court spoke in the Holladay/Cottonwood Mall Site case and then the Legislature weighed in.  Join those who have argued the cases, wrote the legislation, and implement election law.

  • How are petitions to be processed now?
  • What new options do local governments have to respond to referenda or initiatives petitions?
  • How can the ballot box be avoided as land use decisions are made?
