Summary

Directs and supervises the activities of the Planning Department. Coordinates and presents planning items to citizens, groups, consultants, developers, planning commission and city council. Supervises and performs research and analysis of planning studies. Recommends work programs and budget allocations for planning related issues.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Other duties may be assigned as needed.[i]

-        Directs and supervises the activities of the Planning Division or a major section such as long range, current/zoning.

-        Coordinates and presents planning items to citizens, groups, consultants, developers, planning commission and city council.

-        Supervises and performs research and analysis of planning studies.

-        Recommends work programs and budget allocations for sections.

-        Responsible for comprehensive plan development.

-        Performs in-service training for staff.

-        Develops and helps coordinate CRAs, RDAs and CDAs within the city.

-        Aids in the coordination of Economic Development within the city

-        Prepares and submits all the budget proposals for the Planning Department.  Ensures planning related expenditures stay within budget constraints.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

May direct the activities of interns, specialists, or contractors on an as-needed basis.

 

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university and three to five (3-5) years of progressively responsible experience performing above or related duties; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  A bachelor’s degree in urban planning, business administration, public administration or a closely related field is preferred, but not required.

 

Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations

AICP certification preferred, or the ability of obtaining AICP certification within 3 years after employment.
