Pervious and Impervious Surfaces

Hello Planning Colleagues,

Clearfield City has recently adopted a form-based code for the redevelopment of the State Street corridor.  As part of the code there are limitations to impervious coverage of the site, such as buildings, parking lots, and walkways.  In your experience, how successful is the use of pervious materials along the Wasatch Front?  We are wondering if it creates additional challenges with freeze/thaw cycle and not being able to catch hazardous liquids such as oil or other motor vehicle waste that is deposited in parking lots.  Is this type of design more “ideal” but less practical for our climate and challenges?

Curious about your thoughts and experiences you have with pervious materials.

Thank you!
