Community Development - GIS Intern

GENERAL PURPOSE
The Cottonwood Heights' internship program is geared toward college students seeking to supplement their academic training, and expand their professional knowledge and skills in the GIS and planning field.

Works under the general supervision of the Community and Economic Development Director and the GIS Specialist

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The GIS Intern is responsible for a wide variety of entry level, current and long-range planning activities; assists in organizing, conducting and presenting GIS research studies; provides administrative support work in the department in order to become familiar with the overall functions of the department; and performs other related duties as assigned. There may be other opportunities to work on GIS database entry and update development, including, but not limited to the following:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree or currently enrolled in college. A currently enrolled graduate student preferred. Interns must possess a skill set in core business in core business tactics including effective communication (verbal and written), work well in a team setting as well as individually, and be a motivated self- starter.
In addition, the City is looking for an intern who is professional, possesses a strong desire to learn, and is entrepreneurial minded. Preference will be given to those students enrolled in Economics, Business Administration, Geography, or Mathematics focused degree programs, but these majors are not a requirement in order to apply. The intern should be able to balance administrative and clerical responsibilities with independent project management.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The GIS Intern should have some experience in the following:
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Current Utah driver's license
Current or previous study in planning, GIS or related field is required.
HOURS
Negotiable, 20 maximum per week; mutually agreeable hours and schedule (including starting and ending dates) to be determined by intern and Department Director
