ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR

 

Hourly Wage:     $38.95

Annual Salary: $81,016

 

City of Boulder City, Nevada is Seeking a Highly Qualified Economic Development Coordinator.  Under limited supervision, plans, organizes, and manages the activities of the City's Economic Development Program

 

Duties May Include:

                     Recommend, develop and implement goals, objectives, policies, priorities and procedures for economic development.

 

                     Manages the City's Economic Development Program; ensures that program activities comply with City goals, policies, and procedures as well as federal, state, and local laws and regulations; proactively directs and pursues economic development initiatives to achieve goals and objectives outlined by the Mayor, City Council, and executive management.

 

                     Conducts strategic planning for economic development; develops and maintains inventories of retail, industrial, and commercial business opportunities; formulates and implements marketing and business attraction strategies for the City; formulates and implements local business retention and expansion strategies.

 

                     Identifies and markets sites which are vacant or underdeveloped and negotiates with business representatives; researches, develops, and markets economic incentives to increase the attractiveness of sites that are vacant or underdeveloped; and coordinates the development and processing of economic development financing tools.

 

                     Prepares written and graphic reports containing specific recommendations on economic development matters; performs economic impact analysis as required.

 

                     Provides information and makes presentations to boards, commissions, civic groups, businesses, and the general public regarding economic development issues, programs, services, and plans.

 

                     Manages grant programs offered by the City to promote local economic development

 

                     Serves as business ombudsman to help businesses with licenses, permits and daily business with the City.

 

                     Serves as Economic Development point of contact for new business site inquires, and for existing business relocation/expansion efforts.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

 

                     Knowledge of operational characteristics, services, and activities of an Economic Development Program; principles and methods of public and business administration; methods for financing land, buildings, and equipment; general principles, practices and techniques of marketing and public relations; comprehensive research techniques and report preparation; local, regional, and state planning activities and programs; federal grant programs available to the City; real estate principles and related laws; governmental budget development and monitoring procedures; techniques of project development, evaluation, and financial reporting; and supervisory practices and procedures.

 

                     Knowledge of State and local laws affecting community and economic development along with knowledge of housing, economics engineering, finance and real estate as applied to economic development.

 

                     Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; negotiate contractual agreements related to development of properties; work with diverse groups toward common goals; perform research and investigative work; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; maintain records and prepare reports; analyze facts, details, and data, and exercise sound judgment in arriving at conclusions; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; plan, organize, and coordinate programs of interrelated activities.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

                     Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Business or Public Administration, Marketing, Urban Planning, or a closely related field

 

                     Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in economic and industrial development.

 

                     Preference given to individuals with experience in economic development-related activities and organizations, a Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) or Economic Development Finance Professional (EDFP) certification is highly desirable.

 

                     Excellent oral and written communication skills.

 

                     Solid marketing and computer skills.

 

Note:  An equivalent combination of related training and experience may be considered.
