BPAC -
If you are already on Bike Utah's email list, apologies for this duplicitious notice.   And if you read BPAC emails, you already heard me tell you about House Bill 58 (prior description follows), But you should all know that Utah is very close to passing a law that allows cyclists to treat stop signs like yield signs, and red lights like stop signs.

This bill is now in the senate, and this week will receive a final vote before heading to the governor's desk.  If you feel this bill supports bicycling as a healthy and viable transportation option, please take a minute to reach out to your Utah Senate representative this week. which for those of us up in Cache County is Senator Hillyard.

If you're more into online forms, Bike Utah and League of American Bicyclists have put this one together too, which wouldn't hurt to fill out.

Thanks,

Ever hear of the "Idaho Stop"? The northernmost residents of Cache Valley have been utilizing a law that allows bicycles to treat stop signs as yield signs, and red lights as stop signs since 1982, and multiple other municipalities have adopted similar laws since.  The tangible benefits of this law are primarily safety related, with some great quality of life benefits as well.   Read more about Bike Utah's position and research on this bill here.  That link illustrates some of the true safety and quality of life benefits this bill could offer statewide.
