BPAC -

A quick reminder that we will be meeting this Wednesday from 12pm to 1pm at the County Admin Building, 179 North Main St, #301, in Downtown Logan.  A tentative agenda is attached.

And for those of you that can't make the meeting, but are still passionate about our communities becoming better places to walk and bicycle, consider two relevant issues, at two different scales:

Logan's Downtown Zoning Proposal.
Attached is a basic overview of the proposal, which in effect will allow more residential development (@ 4 story heights) downtown.  This density can create not only improved conditions for walkability, but a stronger demand for walkable communities, and makes utilization of non-motorized transportation far more feasible for far more people, as well as reduces the number of people needing cars to travel across the valley to reach a show in downtown Logan.

Dense downtown development can also reduce pressure on Cache County's open spaces and farms as future housing developments.

Please consider writing Logan City Council or even the Herald Journal if you support this type of development would be good to promote active transportation lifestyles in Logan and Cache Valley.

Ever hear of the "Idaho Stop"? The northernmost residents of Cache Valley have been utilizing a law that allows bicycles to treat stop signs as yield signs, and red lights as stop signs since 1982, and multiple other municipalities have adopted similar laws since.  The tangible benefits of this law are primarily safety related, with some great quality of life benefits as well.   Read more about Bike Utah's position and research on this bill here.  That link illustrates some of the true safety and quality of life benefits this bill could offer statewide.

This year, it's in front of state legislature for consideration as UT-HB 58.  If you support this bill, please consider calling or writing the chair of the House Transportation Committee, Representative Kay Christofferson, to ask for support of House Bill 58.  Their committee will be hearing the bill at 8am on Tuesday Morning this week.

See (some of) you on Wednesday,
